On Saturday night this past weekend, I had my first night out in Frankfurt! And let me say, wow, I have never been to any kind of club like this before. Really crazy.
So my friend, Judith and I hung out at her flat beforehand, right in the heart of the city, on a happening street lined with little cafes and restaurants. She and I listened to music in her bedroom, did our hair and makeup, played cards, watched funny videos together on YouTube cracking up into giggles (one video I would recommend for lots of silly giggles: "I Just Had Sex" with Andy Samberg). Lots of fun.
We left her apartment around 11:30pm to head to the club, as this is standard here in Germany. People generally do not even go out until around midnight and they very often stay out until around 6, 7 or 8am the next morning. Absolutely nuts. So not a scene I have ever even witnessed before.

On the subway heading to Gibson Club... |
Annnnnd...this is where we were! I took this video on my phone.

The bar in Gibson Club.
This is a snapshot of the inside of the club. However, this doesn't capture the half of it.
The club is HUGE. Multiple floors, lots and lots of rooms and corridors. You enter and descend down a stone staircase lined by stone walls. The hallways are winding and dark, dimly lit. Almost like being in a cave of sorts, or the inner depths of a dark castle. The lighting and walls give a mysterious, dark feeling to the venue. Upon getting downstairs, the room opens up into a huge room with sky-high ceilings. There is a huge dance floor situated right in the middle. Then off to the left there is a bar (see photo above) which one has to cross under through a stone archway, away from the dance area, to get to. Around the dance floor there are lots of plush seats, which I am assuming was the VIP area. Groups of people, mostly men, seemed to have taken stake of this area, sitting with their friends and starring from the sidelines. There was a second floor/level that was a balcony, so many bodies were crowded together on the floor above, watching the activity below (which is where we were).
The dance floor was lit up, the music was heart thumping (truly, I felt as though the music was beating inside my chest). Every so often, a fog-like substance was emitted from above the dance floor. Within an hour, the club and dance floor was FILLED with party-goers, bodies thumping to the beat.
Judith and I got drinks. We danced. We played a couple of silly bar games. Overall it was a great time. I was excited to have seen this and certainly a bit gap-jawed over some of the entire scene.
We finally left around 3am, which for me was SO late and which for her, was super early ha-ha. We got to bed at around 4am. Needless to say, the next morning I felt a bit like a walking zombie. |
Overall, cool experience!!
Annnnnnnd.....drumroll....in 1 day, I leave for Salzburg, Austria!!!! I depart on Friday morning from Frankfurt train station at 8am to arrive in Salzburg at 2pm. And then I depart from Salzburg back to Frankfurt on Sunday at 2pm and arrive back in Frankfurt around 7pm.
I will be posting an entry with a day or so of my return with LOTS of photos and details all about the trip!!!
Until then...Cheers!
