So in t-minus one week (actually, 5 days to be exact), I will be in Lisbon, Portugal. I have been doing lots of research and am getting very excited about this. I plan to do lots of eating, taking photographs, sight seeing, reading on the beach and more. I am looking forward to relaxing and enjoying the leisure of this vacation week. I can feel little butterflies of excitement (as well as slight nervousness) beginning to flutter in my stomach!
For a small snapshot of what I will be doing (though of course, a FULL blog entry after the trip has concluded should be anticipated ;-)), see below:
This is a neighborhood known as the Alfama district. Hilly, charming, gorgeous and historical. I will be wandering this area, taking photos and most definitely finding a lovely and inviting cafe to eat here.
The Bairro Alto is an incredibly famous, very lively street in Lisbon. I will absolutely be checking this out!
The Belem Tower, basically the symbol of Lisbon. Makes me think of a specific building and scene from the movie Inception. Looks pretty neat though, eh?
St. Georges Castle. This is supposed to offer amazing views of Lisbon.
The Oceanarium, the largest aquarium in all of Europe!!!
Pavilhao Chines, a very famous bar/restaurant in Lisbon because of the thousands of eye catching and fascinating artifacts and trinkets the walls are stuffed with behind glass which one can gaze. Looks way cool!
Santa Justa Elevator. This was actually built by the apprentice of Gustav Eiffel, the man who built the Eiffel Tower. It looks like something out of an eccentric and whimsical carnival to me.
Tram #28. It is recommended to hop on this tram and ride it up to the Alfama area, as the ride itself is supposed to be scenic and lots of fun.
Mouthwatering, ultra famous egg custard tarts sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar on top. A Portuguese must-try dish apparently. Cannot wait to try these.
Carcavelos Beach in Lisbon. The easiest to access by public transportation and also a very lovely beach.
Also I am very much looking forward to relaxing and reading while on this trip. Here are the things I will be reading while on my adventure...
Exact trip dates are March 27-April 3. Stay tuned for full details upon my return!!!
Boy, does Portugal look like a wonderful place to spend a few days just seeing the sights. It warms my bones just looking at all that sun and warm blue ocean, and I would be riding the tram UP and down the hills.
